Once I had finished "The Hunger Games", there was no other option than to finish the series. "Catching Fire", book two, was far and away my favorite! It may not have had the shock effect of book one, but it had a believable aftermath coupled with raw human emotion to draw readers in. Approximately halfway through the book it became riveting, introducing new intriguing characters including my absolute favorite Finnick Odair, let's just say you won't be disappointed! There is also plenty of action, true to the Hunger Games Style.
Now, "Mocking Jay" being the final word in the story of Katniss Everdeen left me feeling a bit disgruntled. It's well written, just like the former two, but honestly I was scraping the pit of despair searching for a small glimmer of sunshine. I know it's a dystopian society, I just think Ms. Collins should have held back from killing off so many great characters. My last gripe is we all enjoy a good love triangle, it's just hard to accept the outcome when the triangle becomes a couple & your guy is left in the dust!!! I will not ruin the suspense, both Peeta & Gale have good qualities...You'll have to read and judge for yourself!
On a different note, I also had the opportunity to consume "Beautiful Darkness" the second book in the Beautiful Creatures series. This is more of a Gothic series for those of you who like to take a stroll to the dark-side,like I do, every now and then. If you enjoyed the original it's going to entertain you, it's fantastical in a good way. I do enjoy Garcia & Stohl's imagination which keeps you guessing whether some of the bad guys/girls are actually bad at all.
I'm on to my next great story, for now Happy Reading!
