Looking for a hot new read? Being the book addict that I am, my answer is Always YES. So my family decided that a great Birthday gift for me would be a book, far be it for me to argue with that kind of excellent thinking. They came up with "Confessions of a Murder Suspect" by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro. A very nice surprise that I probably would not have chosen for myself.

This is the story narrated by Tandy Angel, a teenage girl who is along with her brothers is suspected of murdering her parents. The Angel family is wealthy and influential, they live in a high-rise and when the police show up in the middle of the night; all the kids appear innocent to the circumstances and that is where the fun begins. As the story unfolds, you will see all the dirty little family secrets unfold and find out exactly why the Angel kids are so intelligent, talented and what they are capable of.

Just a word of warning, if you like to pace your reading by chapters this is not the book for you, the chapters are two or three pages each ... four tops. I admit I found this a little bit distracting, a minor inconvenience in the scheme of things though. It's a page turner so I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The real crowning jewel that I have for you is "Divergent" by Veronica Roth. My teen offered it to me about a month ago and I thought Oh no, not another Dystobookpian society story, OMG, let me just correct myself in public. This is by far one of the most brilliant books I have read in quite some time! Tris Prior is a fabulous heroine, the whole storyline with the five factions is enthralling, and if you're looking for a real HUNK to pine away about FOUR is your man! Jam packed with detail and action, I had to force myself to put it down just to get some shut eye! If you only pick up one book this year make it this one.

Yes, I jumped straight to Book two "Insurgent" by Veronica Roth. I still absolutely Love FOUR  (at this point we know his real name), but I'm sorry to say that I felt Tris lost a little of her cutting edge. You will enjoy more action, heart wrenching choices, however if you are a fan of the side love story you may come up short. This was still ,all in all, a very good story; it's just not that easy to live up to such an incredibly high standard like Roth set by book one. I encourage you to read on, nothing will keep me from book three.

William,Your comment

William,Your comment is extremely condescending and is a good example of the ageism I run into at work. I’m not trying to “lead others out of the darkness” or give financial advice, just want to lay out the basics for people my age who really have no idea what’s going on. And based on your IP address I’m assuming you’re in the academic world which would explain why you are so hung up on the importance of being a subject matter expert. Why would I need to work on Wall Street or be old or be well versed in financial lingo to present useful information and ideas. Lingo is no problem for me, I have to translate technical lingo into layman’s terms everyday. Now if you think there’s something else I should be doing besides investing in low-cost index funds, maintaining an emergency fund and waiting to buy a house until the market in my area stabilizes then I’m all ears. Written anything that would give us youngsters insight into your great old wisdom?
